Webpage not opening SCD

This could be one of two possibilities:

  • You have never launched SCD (very unlikely)
  • Your browser is blocking SCD from being opened (very likely)

Safari show you a popup. Simply accept it and it should open the SCD app. If you canceled the popup, try reloading the page and if it still does not work, please let me know at birdicode@gmail.com.

Other Browsers

I can't help you with every browser out there, so you will have to have a look yourself. Do a google search on "external protocol browsername" or something similar. I hope you can find a solution there. If not, you can send an email to birdicode@gmail.com.

The first time SCD would have been launched, you should have seen the window below. Check the "Remember my choice for all links of this type" checkbox and click on "Launch Application".
Chrome external protocol

What is if I clicked the "Do Nothing" with the checkbox enabled or the popup isn't appearing anymore?

Well it's more or less tough luck. You will have to edit a file which is hidden away. Please note, that I won't take any responsibility if you blow up your mac if you do this... Just joking, but seriously, it's not that easy!

Go ahead and open "Terminal" and copy paste the following:

open ~/Library/Application\ Support/Google/Chrome/Local\ State

Quick explanation:

  • The open command will open anything with your default editor
  • The ~/Library/Application\ Support/Google/Chrome/Local\ State it the path to the file which we need to edit (We need the backslashes! They escape whitespaces)

Alright hit the "return" / "enter" key on your keyboard and we have the file open! Search for "scd" in the document. There should be 1 result. Chrome file edit

Here you have the option to either completely remove that line, or change the value from true to false It's up to you.If you choose to delete the line, Chrome will ask you the next time, changing it will always open SCD without asking you again.

Important Please make sure, that you have quit Chrome first! Also, do not modify anything else. If you delete the line, make sure that the , is also removed at the end of the line. If you choose to rename it, leave the , at the end of the line. Google will tell you, that your settings are corrupted and cannot be used anymore, so please be careful!

BTW: If this window appears, you messed up ever so slightly ;)
